As previously announced, the entire off-Broadway cast will be reunited for Broadway production. This includes Tony nominee Jon Michael Hill, Namers Morwood, and Tony Award winner Gabriel Ebert. This performance will mark the Broadway premiere of Nwandu, Smallwood, and director Danya Taymor. Inspired by the legend of Waiting for Godot and the Exodus, the play tells the story of two young black men, Moses and Kic. They dream of being beyond the street corner. After its premiere at the Chicago Steppen Theater Company, the show was released on Off-Broadway in 2018. This was as part of the LCT3 show at the Lincoln Center Theatre.
A few months ago, the movie version of the Chicago stage play made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. It was directed by Spike Lee. And it can now be streamed as an Amazon Prime original.
Along with the safety measures for Pass Over, Nwandu modified the show between its iterations. “Much of the content about Pass Over is still a pity for the premature stolen life of black people. But I am happy to confirm that my team and our producers are presenting a new one centered on health, hope, and joy. Version. Our audience, especially black people,” the playwright said in an earlier statement.
“We are reuniting, once again envisioning this show, telling a version of the story on Broadway. Both Moses and Kitch survived white oppression. The returning creative team members include scene designer Wilson Chin, costume designer Sarafina Bush, lighting designer Marcus Doshi, and sound designer Justin Ellington. The casting was done by Erica A. Hart, Camille Hickman, and Daniel Swee.
