Lady Gaga at the MetLife stadium, 2021

Must read

Lady Gaga is back, monsters, and she plans to blow the MetLife Stadium away! The controversial pop singer has a date for a night to remember, scheduled for August 19! The show is a part of the short, elite tour, taking place only in some of the largest stadiums in Europe and North America. The other scheduled venues are Stade de France (Paris, July 25), Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London, 30 July), Fenway Park (Boston, August 7), Rogers Center (Toronto, August 16), MetLife Stadium (New Jersey, August 19), and a final show on Wrigley Field (Chicago, August 27).

Initial plans and delay

The Chromatica Ball was planned to kick off on July 24, 2020, but had to be delayed due to the global COVID – 19 pandemic. Still, Lady Gaga wasn’t sitting idle. She started dating Michael Polansky – a tech entrepreneur, currently working with Facebook co-founder Sean Parker’s Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, and former CEO for The Parker Group.

Lady Gaga released Chromatica – her sixth studio album, on May 29, 2020. It became an instant chart-topper in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Italy, and the UK. The first two singles of the album were Stupid Love and Rain on Me (feat Ariana Grande). The duet won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. This instant classic topped all charts at its debut. With Rain on Me, Lady Gaga set a milestone – she became the third person to top the country’s chart in the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Later that year, she received the inaugural Tricon Award and appeared in Valentino’s Voce Viva fragrance.

Lady Gaga began 2021 singing the national anthem on President Biden’s inauguration. One tragic event occurred in February when her dog walker Ryan Fischer got shot and two of her doggos got kidnapped. However, they were returned at a later point and there’s an investigation going at the moment. The year went forward on a higher note with a new album along with Tony Benett and several movie roles!

The Chromatica Ball

Like I mentioned above, the whole tour was postponed for 2021 due to the global health crisis. Lady Gaga went on Twitter to say:

“We’ve been working hard to figure out the safest and soonest way to bring this show to you, but most importantly want everyone to be healthy and able to dance together at the shows as we always have.”

The first thing I noticed is the huge amount of tickets on Ticketmaster (which serves as the tour’s primary market both in Europe and the US). The first thing that made me a great impression was the enormous amount of thickets that has been released. This means that Lady Gaga will perform in front of a full crowd.

Primary Market

Tickets vary heavily in price. The cheapest tickets – the higher rows of Sections 314 – 338, start at $89.80 and can reach up to $130.75, including fees. The closer you get to the stage, the higher the prices get. Sections 213 – 239 vary between $236 (the bulk of the tickets) and the Official Platinum that cost about $373.10.

Sections 112 to 140 are considerably pricier. Although you can find tickets that cost $259, most of the passes cost above $350 (labeled Preferred seating). Top-row seating sections 1 – 14 are the closest to the stage, but the tickets are the most expensive. Prices vary $282.85 (almost over) and sky-high prices up to $4.525.54. The most expensive ticket is Sec 3, Row 1, and costs $5,956.54.

Secondary Market

All major secondary vendors sell tickets for Lady Gaga at the MetLife Stadium. StubHub has tickets starting at $109. SeatGeek goes a bit expensive with prices starting at $129. VividSeats is the cheapest, providing tickets costing $103.

The tickets above are not for the finest seats for Lady Gaga at the MetLife Stadium. The bulk of the tickets costs from around $300 up to $450. Let’s take for example Section 213 – a middle row with a decent view towards the stage. Vividseats has the cheapest offer, worth $265. SeatGeek’s cheapest ticket for this section costs $374, while the one of StubHub – $350.

Lady Gaga had several large-scale concerts in New York through the years. She has performed in the Radio City Music Hall (January 2010), the Madison Square Garden (2014), the Citi Field (2017, with nearly 70k in the audience), and some smaller venues and clubs. This would be the first concert of Lady Gaga at the MetLife Stadium and is expected to be her largest show in the Big Apple up to now.

Lady Gaga on the Citi Field, Joanne World Tour

Controversial as always, Lady Gaga took the Citi Field by storm! The baseball field was at maximum capacity, with nearly 70.000 singing and screaming with their favorite pop superstar! She performed some of her top-charting hits like Alejandro, Born This Way, Bad Romance, and Poker Face.

Both fans and critics gave the show ecstatic reviews.

“a big, over-the-top assault on the senses, Gaga’s Joanne World Tour is as impressive as an arena show gets, with a dramatic arc that hinges as much on the singer’s charisma and vocal skills as it does any of the special effects.

Tom Murray, Edmonton Journal

Lady Gaga can do more than your average pop star. … Though there’s much to be said about Gaga’s unfaltering vocals and high-energy showmanship, it’s also worth noting one of the most impressive parts of the show: the set.”

Alex Stedman, Variety

“Even as Lady Gaga’s studio albums have become more scattered and uneven, she remains a fantastic live act, distilling the best of her music, her fashion sense, her vocal skills and her charismatic personality into a two-hour stage spectacle. … Gaga herself remained the most mesmerizing part of an impressively crafted show.”

It poured it down !
We had the cheap seats at the back which turned out to be great as they were the ones with the small roof over them !
The subway runs right to the stadium at Willets Point, so getting there is easy. As this clashed with the US Tennis open, the subway trains were pretty mental, but you just have to get there !
The queues were crazy but the staff did a good job getting us inside.
As you can take in a factory sealed plastic soda/water bottle and limited personal food you can keep costs down.
The views are excellent from any where in the stadium.
A word for Lady Gaga. Consummate professional, performed throughout the driving rain, determined and succeeding to put on a great show !

In conclusion – what should we expect?

It might sound like a cliché, but we should really expect the unexpected. Lady Gaga is a master in delivering a show like no one else. There are high expectations towards the show, especially after the whole COVID – 19 pandemic. I, for certain, am sure that the show of Lady Gaga at the MetLife Stadium won’t disappoint!

This fall is stacked with large-scale concerts! Justin Bieber and Genesis are both playing in the MSG!
