The newest addition to Brian Daboll’s first coaching staff with the Giants is a history maker – he has hired Laura Young as the team’s director of coaching operations.
Who is Laura Young, the newest addition to the Giants?
She is believed to be the first woman employed in the coaching department in franchise history. Young was Buffalo’s player services coordinator, and Dabor was the Bills’ offensive coordinator for the past four years. Young will become Sean McDermott’s third member in Buffalo to travel to the Giants with Brian Daboll. He hired Bobby Johnson as offensive line coach and Shea Tierney as quarterbacks coach.
Function
In her most recent role, Young helped players and their families adjust to Buffalo. She has also served as the COVID-19 coordinator for the past two years. Young has been with the NFL for 16 years, starting in customer service for the Ravens. Rex Ryan brought Young to the Jets as an assistant to the head coach. And Young went with Ryan when he moved to the Bills.
Young has been working for Bill for the past seven years. Two years ago, the Giants and former general manager Dave Guttman hired their first full-time female scout Hannah Burnett. She previously played for the Falcons.
Roles
Young served as an administrative assistant with the Baltimore Ravens from 2004 to 2009. That was before moving to the New York Jets (2009 to 2015). Assistant to the head coach from 2009 to 2014, followed by a year as manager of football administrative services. She then moved to the Bills. There, she served as Football Administrative Services Manager/Assistant Head Coach from 2015 to 2017, then as Player Services Coordinator.
According to Raanan, Young is also one of the Bills’ COVID-19 protocol coordinators for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. The 2021 season is her 16th in the NFL. She was recruited to the Ravens to work in customer service on the business side. Rex Ryan hired her as an assistant to the Jets head coach, and she followed him to Buffalo and stayed after he left.
