Mr. Saturday Night returned, March 29!
The show began previews in front of a full crowd at the Nederlander Theater. Billy Crystal returned as Buddy Young, Jr. That way he reprised his role from the 1992 movie.
Buddy Young, Jr., a real-life person, was an outspoken comedian from the early years of TV. The show takes place some 40 years after Buddy’s fall from grace.
Cast and creative
Starring along with Billy Crystal are Tony winner Randy Graff (City of Angels, Les Misérables) as Buddy’s wife, Elaine Young; Oscar nominee David Paymer returning to his film role of Stan Yankelman, Buddy’s brother; Chasten Harmon as his agent, Annie Wells; and Shoshana Bean as Buddy’s daughter, Susan. Rounding out the ensemble are Jordan Gelber, Brian Gonzales, and Mylinda Hull.
Mr. Saturday Night reunites Crystal with Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, with whom he worked together on the original movie. The further cast features Tony winner Jason Robert Brown and Tony nominee Amanda Green who created the score. Also, director John Rando, David O, Ellenore Scott, Scott Pask, and more!
