Wicked in Concert: A Musical Celebration of the Iconic Broadway Score will premiere on PBS radio stations across the country at 9 PM EST on August 29th. Directed by Tony Award winner Baayork Lee, the evening will celebrate the upcoming return of the Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical on Broadway. It will resume performance at the Gershwin Theatre on September 14.

Wicked in Concert will feature reimagined musical adaptations. It will be performed by celebrity artists from the world of film, pop, music, and television. The cast will be announced. Parts of the concert will be filmed in multiple locations, including Washington, DC, Los Angeles, and New York City. The arrangement for the orchestra was composed by Luke Fraser and members of the American Pop Orchestra.
The creative team also includes assistant director Tara Young. She will be assisted by director Cassey Kivnick, lighting designer Zach Blane and music director Frazier. Wicked’s music and lyrics were created by Schwartz. It is adapted from Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and adapted into a stage play by Holzman. This popular musical won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical (Idina Menzel), Best Costume Design (Susan Hilferty), and Best Scene Design (Eugene Lee).
Wicked will hold a show in Dallas and resume the national tour. Tickets will go on sale on May 21. The tour will move to Charlotte and Greensboro, North Carolina; Appleton, Wisconsin; Cincinnati; Kansas City, Missouri; Costa Mesa, California; Omaha, Nebraska, and Boston. Ken Novice, President of Dallas Summer Musical, said: “We are very honored and excited to present WICKED. This is not only the return performance of Dallas but also the first time Broadway has resumed performances in the United States.” According to the theater website, in preparation for production, the concert hall upgraded the air filtration system, installed a separate HEPA air purifier, increased the cleaning schedule of the theater surface, and modified the box office and ticket scanning station to limit physical contact. .Visitors must wear masks. Food and beverages are not allowed in the auditorium.
