The Tony Awards have announced a return date along with an event! The Broadway League announced that the 74th Tony Awards ceremony will be held on September 26 at 7 pm. The award ceremony aims to celebrate the 2019-2020 Broadway season performances that have been suspended due to the new COVID – 19 epidemic. Immediately afterward, Paramount+ and CBS will broadcast the Tony Awards: The Return of Broadway! , A live concert and a show in the last three categories of the Tony Awards-Best Play, Best Revival, and Best Musical. The broadcast will also celebrate the other winners earlier that night, as well as live music performances by contenders nominated for the best musical.
A Gesture of Gratitude
“After the devastating blow to our industry, our city and the world in the past year and a half, we are very happy to finally be able to celebrate the return of Broadway, our Tony Award nominees and winners” Charlotte St. Martin, president of Broadway League and president and CEO of American Theater Wing, said in a statement. “Nothing can compare to the magic of live theater-we are excited to share the celebration of its return and the incredible talent and artistry of the 2019-2020 season with theater fans everywhere.”

A Long-Awaited Return
New York officials recently paved the way for the return of Broadway, allowing full attendance from September. The three heavyweights—Hamilton, The Lion King, and the Evil—will return on September 14th, and Hadestown announced plans to return on September 2nd, which is the first scheduled resumption of performance on Great White Road.
