Two Broadway works are about to reopen -“Kill a Mockingbird” and “The Phantom of the Opera”. They have released celebration videos. The two videos can be seen online. To Kill a Mockingbird and the Phantom of the Opera will return on October 15 and October 22 respectively.

To Kill a Mockingbird

Mockingbird commemorates the return of Broadway, which was closed for more than a year due to the pandemic. This two-minute video was written by playwright Aaron Sorkin, who adapted Harper Lee’s classic plays on stage. Tony nominee and Emmy Award winner Jeff Daniels will replay the role of Atticus Finch.

Sorkin said in a statement: “After more than a year of darkness, Broadway is roaring back to life. For everyone who cares about or this ancient tradition of telling stories on stage, this is a historic moment. I feel that I have a deep connection with these three people. And I have a strong desire to commemorate this occasion. This short film is the result, and I hope it can inspire the artists who crowded Times Square eight times a week.”

“Killing a Mockingbird” is a 2018 play adapted from Harper Lee’s 1960 novel of the same name. It was adapted into a stage play by Aaron Sorkin. It opened on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre on December 13, 2018. The show tells the story of Atticus Finch, a lawyer from Alabama in the 1930s. He is defending Tom Robinson, a black man who was falsely accused of rape. Unlike the original, the protagonist of the play is Atticus, not his daughter Scout. This makes his role change throughout the show. During the development process, the show was involved in two legal disputes.

The first was with Harper Lee Estate regarding the license of the show to the original work, and the second was due to the use of Christopher Selgel’s script. The exclusivity of copyright. During the first week, the show’s box office revenue exceeded US$1.5 million. The evaluations of publications such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and New York Times were positive, but not without criticism.

Phantom of the Opera

Broadway’s longest-running work “The Phantom of the Opera” released a video titled “The Rhythm of New York.” This 40-second video is a tribute to the iconic sights and sounds of New York City and is set in Phantom’s infamous pipe organ improvisation. Look below. Andrew Lloyd Webb’s musical will resume at the Majestic Theater on October 22nd.

The Phantom of the Opera is a musical, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber (who co-wrote the script with Richard Steele) and Charles Hart. It is based on the 1910 French novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux. The plot revolves around the beautiful soprano Christine Daaé, who became obsessed with a mysterious masked musical genius living in the underground labyrinth of the Paris Opera. Phantom estimates that the global total revenue is more than 6 billion U.S. dollars, and Balao’s combined revenue is more than 1 billion U.S. dollars. It is the most financially successful entertainment event until the Lion King surpassed it in 2014. By 2011, more than 130 million people had viewed cities in 27 countries in 145 years.
